Are Car Dealerships Essential Businesses in Ontario?

In the midst of heightened concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Ontario has called for a temporary shutdown of all non-essential businesses. For residents in need of a vehicle, many are left to wonder if car dealerships are considered essential businesses in Ontario. A full list of businesses that are permitted to stay open was released Monday night, and automotive dealerships can be found among the list of businesses authorized to operate during the order.

Is The Car Lot etc. Open? – Yes, we’re still open! At this time, we have reduced our sales department’s hours of operation and minimized our staff to better meet social distancing recommendations by health officials.

Effective March 25, our service department will be temporarily closed. During this time, we have made arrangements with other local service centres that are open to service our customers.

Is it safe to visit the dealership? – In response to the rapid spread of COVID-19, we are proactively taking steps to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. We have ramped up our cleaning regimen to further sanitize all surfaces across our facilities, paying special attention to high-contact surfaces like counters and doorknobs. The entire dealership is cleaned on a daily basis with approved cleaning products. Guests will also have access to additional disinfectants, hand sanitizers and gloves to help reduce the spread of germs.

Do I have to come into the dealership to purchase a vehicle? – We understand our guests may have concerns about leaving home at this time. While everyone is welcome at The Car Lot etc., our online buying process a great alternative to visiting the lot in person. We are available by phone, text or email for clients who wish to complete a credit application.
